Notably, my people customers will now be able to make international calls with their cell phones for the same low rates offered by my people. “My Remote is an innovative Internet phone feature that none of our competitors can match, and one that our customers are absolutely going to love,” said Alan Creighton, president and CEO for my people. “With My Remote, our customers will no longer have to memorize calling card numbers, risk using work phones for long distance calls or pay the outrageous international long distance rates that normally apply to cell phones.” To access the ‘My Remote’ service, customers register up to two “external” phone numbers by securely logging on to the my people website (www.mypeople.com) with their account-specific login and password information. Then, callers simply call their home phone number from their registered phones. The customer then has the option to either say “remote” to access their my people Internet phone service or connect the call home as usual. When using the remote feature, customers can say the name of the person they’d like to call – if it is in their ‘Address Book’ – or simply say the number they’d like to dial, using the speak-to-dial functionality already built in to my people. The customer can also access their voice-prompted menu of content delivery options, such as weather or sports, from their cell phones or other registered phones. The ‘My Remote’ feature is included in the $25/month standard my people plan. Sample international rates include 3-cents/minute to the U.K. and Hong Kong. Only registered numbers (i.e. cell phones, work phones, or even other residential lines) will be recognized by the my people Internet phone service and given access to ‘My Remote’. The ‘My Remote’ feature is patent pending.
